An interesting translation of a video interview of a “typical” Free Syrian Army rebel showing the essense of the Syrian “moderate opposition” appeared online. The translation was made by a media activist “Walid” (link to his Twitter).
The transcript:
In the name of God the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. We are forces of Free Syrian Army in northern rural Homs, in the city of Rastan. We are defending our people, our women from the forces of the regime and the terrorists be they Iran or Hezbollah. Our principle & doctrine is one… In the hadith, Abi Omama quotes the prohpet as saying: God’s chosen land ins the Sham (Levant) and the best of what he created are in it. You are God’s best creations. So this is a message to all the factions of the opposition, all those who carry arms against the regime. Whether you are Ahrar [al-Sham], JFS [SF comment: an acronym of Jabhat Fatah al-Sham – formerly Jabhat al-Nusra, the Syrian branch of al-Qaeda], Faylaq al-Sham, our names differ but defending the Syrian people and undertaking Jihad on the path to God are what unite us.
