US Provocations Over The Black Sea: Russian Military Thwarted Operations Of Reaper And Black Hawk UAVs

On August 28th, the Russian military thwarted reconnaissance operations of American UAVs near the Russian border over the Black Sea. Russian aircraft are scaring off NATO forces in the area on a daily basis.

On the afternoon, the Russian Ministry of Defence reported that Russian forces had spotted MQ-9 Reaper and RQ-4 Global Hawk drones of the US Air Force over the southwestern part of the Black Sea. The UAVs were conducting aerial reconnaissance operations in the area of Crimea and were approaching the state border of the Russian Federation.

In order to prevent a possible violation of the border and to counteract the conduct of electronic intelligence, two Russian fighters were lifted into the air. After that, the drones changed their route and left the areas, where they conducted aerial reconnaissance.

On August 27, a similar incident took place in the Black Sea area. The Russian Su-30 fighter prevented the violation of the Russian state border by another MQ-9A Reaper reconnaissance UAV of the US Air Force. LINK

NATO military aircraft, including various reconnaissance UAVs, are conducting their operations over the Black Sea on a regular basis. They make all Ukrainian attempts to attack the Crimean peninsula as well as Russian military or civilian vessels possible. However, the number of provocative manoeuvres of NATO near the Russian border has recently increased. They may signal on the upcoming attacks on the Russian military by the AFU. The dangerous operations may also provoke a new wave of escalation between Russia and NATO, like this was the case in March, when US MQ-9A Reaper drone crashed after the Russian Su-27 approached it.
