On Sunday, Afghan officials from Jabal Saraj district announced that a key commander of the Taliban was killed in a US unmanned combat aerial vehicle (UCAV) strike in Ezat Khil area of Jabal Saraj district.

The airstrike was conducted as a part of an attack of the Afghan Army backed by US-led coalition warplanes in Ezat Khil area, according to the officials.

“Troops came from Kabul and they launched a military operation in Ezat Khil and the foreign troops also provided support from the air in which Mullah Agha Gul, a Taliban commander and one of his fighters, were killed,” Masoum Farzayee police chief of Jabal Saraj said.

However, Mohammad Asim Asim, the governor of Jabal Saraj district denied that the Taliban commander was killed by the US-led coalition airstrike. Asim claimed that the current operation in the Ezat Khil area is carried out by Afghan Ground Forces. According to him two fighters of the Taliban been killed so far.

Meanwhile, the Afghan Police announced that one of its checkpoints in Arghandab district was attacked by Taliban fighters. According to Afghan Police, 5 policemen were killed and 2 others were injured in the attack.

The Taliabn is now conducting rapid “Hit and Run” attacks against the Afghan Police and Army. This tactic reveals that the Taliban is not in rush to make any major gains in Afghanistan, for now.
