According to spokeswoman for the United States Department of State Heather Nauert, the US do not deny the possibility of supplying weapons to Ukraine.
“We do not supply [Ukraine] with weapons, but we don’t deny the possibility. There’s nothing else to say on the matter,” Nauert said.
Nauert stressed that the US pay close attention to developments in Ukraine. She reminded that US special envoy to Ukraine Kurt Volker recently paid a visit to the country.
“I don’t see why Ukraine should be a special case, why we shouldn’t [sell them weapons], especially when they actively try to protect their territory,” Voker said.
Ukrainian official Anton Gerashchenko said that the Minsk accords were signed by the Ukrainian side as a deliberate ploy in order to deliberately trick Russia.
“Minsk accords were needed in 2014-2015. [Ukrainian] President Poroshenko united the world leaders and they put pressure on Putin, stopping his military convoys from pushing on Ukraine. But this also happened because Putin himself did plan a military advance on Ukraine, and did not know what to do,” he said. “You could say, Petro Poroshenko and our diplomats just tricked the Russian Federation. We understood that we won’t uphold the agreement, when we signed it.”
