Pokrovsk region remains one of the most dangerous battlefields for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. High-ranked Ukrainian servicemen acknowledge their problems and dangerous defeats in this direction, while the Russian troops are already approaching the outskirts of the city.
The Armed Forces of the Russian have recently achieved important gains south of Pokrovsk. Ukrainian forces were repelled from the strategically important town of Novotroitskoe and retreat in Shevchenko. The road from Pokrovsk to Constantinople located west of Kurakhovo was cut off.
Ukrainians are looking for culprits. According to the previous reports by Ukrainian media, a “large fortified area of the Armed Forces of Ukraine” has been built south of Pokrovsk in recent months. The stronghold worth several tens of millions of hryvnia between Novotroitskoe and Shevchenko was reportedly captured by Russian forces almost immediately. Ukrainian military observers complained that Russian soldiers took control of the military positions before the Ukrainian command managed to assess the situation and send the reinforcement there.

Amid the panics spread in Ukrainian media, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Syrsky reportedly travelled to the area of Pokrovsk. He was likely aimed to calm down his readers and assure the public that the situation in the Pokrovsk direction is under control but his reports on the social networks highlighted the panic including in the Ukrainian military. He claimed that there are heavy battles with outnumbered enemy forces. The goal is to assure the defense of the city and military supplies, which the Ukrainian military lacks.

Meanwhile, Russian forces are expanding their zone of control on the southern flank of Pokrovsk. Theis artillery and even mortars are already pounding Ukrainian military positions in the city. The front is already less than two kilometers from the city. According to Ukrainian military sources, Russian reconnaissance groups are already operating on the southern outskirts of Pokrovsk.
