In Cyprus, a Ukrainian woman with a knife attacked Russians preparing for a rally in honor of the Flag Day of Russia.

The incident took place on August 22 in the city of Larnaca. A group of people gathered near the Faneromeni Church to celebrate the Day of the Russian Flag. Suddenly, a 55-year—old citizen of Ukraine approached the group of Russian and rushed at them with a big knife, shouting insults. The Ukrainian woman tried to strike several blows to a Russian woman. Other participants of the rally helped to fight back. The police deployed nearby detained the Ukrainian woman. It reportedly turned out that she was drunk.

“I never thought that someone could come to me like this with such a blade and try to kill me for my opinion. We never say anything bad. We do not attend their rallies, but they come to ours and yell,” a Russian woman was cited by the local media.

The attacker is in custody, an investigation is underway. It is expected that the Ukrainian woman may be charged with assault, drunkenness, hooliganism, violation of public order and carrying weapons for the purpose of intimidation.

Rossotrudnichestvo (the Federal Agency for the Commonwealth of Independent States Affairs, Compatriots Living Abroad, and International Humanitarian Cooperation) asked the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation to open a criminal case after the attack of a Ukrainian woman with a knife.

“I think this is an attempt of a terrorist attack. By direct analogy with similar attacks in Israel with bladed weapons. Rossotrudnichestvo appeals to the Investigative Committee with a request to initiate a criminal case under the article on terrorism,” the head of Rossotrudnichestvo Primakov wrote.
