At night, large fire broke out at the airfield in the Kursk region. According to the local authorities, the airfield was hit by Ukrainian UAV.
The attack resulted in no casualties but the UAV damaged a facility of the airfield. The fuel depot was targeted. As a result, large fire broke out and lasted for several hours.
The Kursk airfield is used both for military and civilian purposes but since the beginning of the Russian military operations in Ukraine, all civilian flights were suspended in Russian border regions, including in Kursk. This is one of Russian airfields located close to the Ukrainian border and used by the Russian military. That’s why it is expected that the Kursk airfield should be protected by all necessary air defence means. However, the recent attack was already the fourth one since February 2022.
On December 5, Ukrainian UAVs reached Russian military airfields in the Ryazan and Saratov regions. LINK
