On the morning of September 6, the Armed Forces of Ukraine went on offensive in the Kharkiv region in Eastern Ukraine. The AFU launched another large-scale offensive operation near the town of Balakleya in an attempt to encircle the Izyum grouping of Russian forces. Escalation of the Ukrainian military activities was also reported on the outskirts of thecity of Kharkiv.
The Ukrainian military have been reinforcing their military positions in the region for more than a month. In the recent days, the Russian Ministry of Defense officially confirmed that several attempts of Ukrainian forces to advance in the Kharkiv region had failed.
On September 6, the AFU reportedly succeeded to advance several kilometers. Now the most active fighting is ongoing in the area of Balakleya.
After heavy artillery shelling, the AFU went on the offensive, throwing forward armored vehicles. The artillery and aviation of the Russian army are hitting the advancing enemy forces.
So far, the AFU have reportedly managed to take control of the western outskirts of the village of Verbovka located to the north-west from Balakleya. The bridge over the small river in the village was destroyed. Fighting is ongoing. Russian forces attempt to prevent the AFU from reaching the Balakleya-Volhov Yar road used for Russian military supplies.
In their turn, the Russian Aerospace Forces struck the headquarters of the operational command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Chuguev.
A Ukrainian Mi-8 helicopter was reportedly shot down over Balakleya.
A base of the Ukrainian nazi Kraken unit was destroyed in Kharkiv.
The clashes escalated along the entire Kharkiv front lines. Fighting has not stopped since yesterday morning near the town of Tsirkuny.
The ongoing developments do not allow to predict any results of the Ukrainian offensive. As it was awaited by the Russian military, it may end with heavy losses of the AFU without any significant gains on the battlefields as it was the case in the Kherson region.
At the same time, Russian forces have not claimed any victories in the Izyum region for months. They also have limited military sources and the military command could be distracted by the military operations in the south of Ukraine. The offensive began on a day when Russian President Putin and Defence Minister Shoigu were in the Russian Far East, where the Vostok 2022 military exercise had begun.
The operations of the AFU are yet to bring any military results on the front lines, at the same time, they have clear political goals. The Kiev regime is in a hurry to proclaim any victories in order to assure its WEstern allies to continue their military support. At the request of the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Oleksiy Reznikov, NATO called on the Alliance member states to provide winter equipment for the AFU as soon as possible. The details of the aid package will probably be discussed on September 8 at a meeting of the Western group for the coordination of military assistance to Ukraine at the US Ramstein base.
