On March 13, the Armed Forces of Ukraine attempted an assault on the village of Pobeda located to the south of Mariinka in the Donetsk People’s Republic.
Russian reconnaissance has spotted the movement of large Ukrainian forces on the outskirts of the village. As a result of the timely reaction, servicemen of the Russian 255th regiment pounded the approaching enemy with artillery fire.
Footage from the battlefield showed the US-made M113 armored personnel carier attempting to evacuate the wounded Ukrainian servicemen from the fields, but after the shelling nearby, the rescue team rushed away, abandoning their wounded colleagues.
The Russian military took control of the village of Pobeda back in February. LINK The AFU are in control of several buildings to the south of the settlement. On March 12, Russian military sources warned that the AFU were preparing large counterattacks in an attempt to take back control of the village. The Russian army managed to repel the first assault; but they are likely to continue.
The attack took place amid the ‘media tour’ of the new Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Syrsky, and the Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Umerov, to the eastern frontlines. According to Ukrainian media, Syrsky ordered Ukrainian forces to take back control of several recently lost settlements in the Ugledar and Avdeevsky directions.
