The Ukrainian military attacked on June 1 an industrial area in the city of Krasnodon in the Lugansk People’s Republic with Storm Shadow missiles, wounding several people, the head of the republic, Leonid Pasechnik, said.

This was the first use of the British-Franco missile by Ukraine in several weeks. The attack came following a deadly act of sabotage that targeted two civilian trains in the Russian regions of Kubyryansk and Kursk. It also coincided with an unprecedented drone attack on bomber bases in the regions of Irkutsk, Ryazan, Murmansk, Ivanovo and Amur.

“Today, the peaceful city of Krasnodon in the republic’s rear areas was attacked by Ukrainian troops. The criminal Kiev regime uses long-range European-made weapons. The shelling attack was staged with the use of Storm Shadow missiles targeting an industrial area. Nearby multi-apartment buildings and single-family houses were damaged, several people were hurt,” Pasechnik wrote on his Telegram channel.

“This another act of aggression by the criminal Kiev authorities committed ahead of the talks in Istanbul reveals Ukraine’s intention to continue the war. Unable to take the blow on the battlefield, they are acting as terrorists opting to fight against civilians,” he added.

Photos from the scene of the attack in Krasnodon;s industrial area showed the remains of at least one Storm Shadow missile.

The Storm Shadow is a low-observable, long-range, air-launched cruise missile developed in the 1990s by Matra and British Aerospace, and now manufactured by MBDA. The missile features a GPS-aided inertial navigation system with a terrain profile matching system. For terminal guidance, it is equipped with an imaging infrared scene-mapping area correlator system.

The maximum range of the Storm Shadow is 560 kilometers. However, Ukraine received the downgraded export version with a range of 250 kilometers. The Ukrainian Air Force has reportedly integrated the 1,300 kg cruise missile on its Soviet-era Su-24 fighter bombers.

The recent escalation by the Kiev regime is apparently meant to sabotage the next round of direct talks with Russia, which is set to be held on June 2 in Turkey.
