On Friday, a US Army UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter crashed off the southerncoast of Yemen, the US Central Command said in a statement.
According to the statement, a service member is missing after the crash. Five troops who were also aboard were rescued.
“US forces in the region are conducting an ongoing search for one US service member who was aboard the aircraft,” the statement reads.
The US Special Operations Forces have been operating on the ground in support of an operation against the Al Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) terror group. According to the Pentagon, US troops are limited to advisory and intelligence work. However, they could be drawn into a fighting in self-defense.
