The head of ISIS in Afghanistan “Abu Sayed Orakzai” was killed along with ten of his fighters on August 25 in a U.S. airstrike on his hideout in the district of Khogyani in the eastern province of Nangarhar, according to several Afghan sources.

Deputy spokesperson for Afghanistan’s President Ashraf Ghani confirmed Orakzai’s death in a statement. U.S. military spokesman in Kabul Lt. Col. Martin O’Donnell also confirmed that the U.S. Army targeted a “senior leader of a designated terrorist organization” in Afghanistan on August 25.

“I would also add that the United States unrelentingly continues its counterterrorism efforts against ISIS-K, al-Qaeda, and other regional and international terrorist groups,” O’Donnell said in an official statement, according to FOX NEWS.

Orakzai succeed “Abdul Haseeb Logari,” who was killed last year in a joint raid of U.S. Special Forces and Afghan commandos in the district of Achin in Nangarhar, the stronghold of the terrorist group in Afghanistan.

The assassination of Orakzai is a huge blow to ISIS in Afghanistan, especially that Afghan sources believe that the notorious leader was responsible for a series of bombings that killed and injured hundreds of civilians across the war-torn country.
