On February 10, two people were killed and five others were wounded in a ramming attack near the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Ramot.

A photo from the scene of the alleged attack showed several people on the ground after a blue Mazda vehicle crashed into a bus stop near the Nebi Samuel site, between Jerusalem and the Palestinian city of Ramallah. Several bystanders can also be seen aiming firearms at the car.

The Israeli Police said that the driver was shot dead by an officer who was at the scene. The driver was later identified as Hussein Qaraqa, an Israeli citizen and resident of the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Issawiya.

The Magen David Adom ambulance service said a six-year-old boy was pronounced dead at the scene. He was named as Yaakov Yisrael Fali. The second victim was identified as Alter Shlomo Lederman, a 20-year-old religion student

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said that a decision to seal and demolish the home of the attacker was taken.

“On behalf of all the citizens of Israel, I send my condolences to the families of those murdered in the attack in Jerusalem. I conducted a security assessment and ordered an increase in forces, to carry out arrests and act immediately to seal the terrorist’s house and demolish it,” Netanyahu said.

Israeli authorities demolish the homes of Palestinians accused of carrying out deadly attacks as a part of controversial policy.

Palestinian news sources reported that Israeli troops have already arrested the wife of the attacker and several of his relatives.

The deadly ramming attack was praised by both the Palestinian Islamic Jihad and the Hamas Movement, the de-facto ruler of the Gaza Strip. However, neither of the two factions claimed responsibility.

The attack came amid rising violence in the region. On January 27, a Palestinian gunmen killed seven Israelis in East Jerusalem. The shooting attack was a response to an earlier Israeli operation in the West Bank’s Jenin refugee camp that left ten people dead.
