Two Israelis were killed and four others were wounded in a shooting attack at a junction in southern Israel on February 16.

The daring attack took place at Re’em Junction, just north of the city of Kiryat Malachi. Israeli Police said that the gunman arrived at the scene in a vehicle and opened fire at people at a bus station, before he was shot and killed by an armed civilian.

Israel’s Magen David Adom ambulance service said that its medics treated six people at the scene, including two men in a critical condition who were later declared dead at Rehovot’s Kaplan Medical Center. Two of the wounded remain in a serious condition and the two others were listed in moderate condition.

The gunman was not immediately identified by authorities. Some Hebrew-language media outlets reported that he was a resident of East Jerusalem’s Shuafat camp.

In a statement, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that the shooting attack showed that “the murderers want to kill us all.”

“This attack reminds us that the whole country is a front and that the murderers, who come not only from Gaza, want to kill us all,” Netanyahu said. “We will continue to fight until complete victory with all our strength, on every front, everywhere, until we restore security and peace to all citizens of Israel.”

The deadly attack came amid Israel’s war against the Hamas Movement and other Palestinian armed factions in the Gaza Strip.

The Israeli military stepped up operations throughout the occupied West Bank after the start of the war, killing more than 300 Palestinains and arresting many others.
