Two Fighters Of Hezbollah’s Ally ‘Amal’ Killed In Israeli Strikes On Lebanon

Two fighters of the Shia Amal Movement, Hezbollah’s closest ally in Lebanon, were killed and another was wounded late on February 2 when an Israeli strike hit a house in the southern Lebanese town of Blida.

The Lebanese Resistance Regiments, the military wing of Amal, released two statements a little after midnight announcing the deaths of the two fighters, Ali Mohammadand and Moustafa Daher.

The death of the two fighters brought the number of Amal fighters who have been killed since the outbreak of the border clashes between Hezbollah and the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) on the backdrop of the war in the Gaza Strip to three. The group’s first casualty in the clashes was on November 11.

Hezbollah carried out three attacks against the IDF on February 2, targeting a military site and a settlement near the Lebanese border with rockets and other weapons. It’s unclear if the targeted Amal fighters had taken part in any of these attacks or previous ones.

Since the outbreak of the war in Gaza more than three months ago, Hezbollah and its allies, including Lebanese and Palestinian groups, have been launching attacks against the IDF from southern Lebanon.

Hezbollah has so far lost 166 fighters, 14 of whom were killed in Syria. 28 fighters and commanders of the Hamas Movement and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad have also been killed in Lebanon. In addition, Israeli attacks on the country killed a Lebanese soldier and at least 24 civilians, including one Syrian.

On the Israeli side, six civilians and nine soldiers of the IDF have been killed since the clashes on the border with Lebanon first broke out.

The United States and France have been making efforts to broker a diplomatic deal between Israel and Lebanon to end the clashes. Nevertheless, Hezbollah insists that this will only be possible after the Israeli war on Gaza is over.
