On April 6, a unit of the Turkish Army conducted a reconnaissance mission in the southern Idlib countryside and the northern Hama countryside, the Syrian pro-opposition news outlet Enab Baladi reported.

Enab Baladi said that the Turkish unit had visited the villages and towns of Khan Shaykhun, Murak, Lahaya, Lataminah, Kafr Zita and al-Sayyad during its mission.

Syrian opposition activists claimed that the Turkish Army is planning to establish a new observation post in one of these six villages and towns. However, these claims have not been yet.

The Turkish Army has established four observation posts since the beginning of 2018 in the towns of Andan and al-Eis in Aleppo governorate and in the towns of Tell Tuqan and Sarman in the Idlib governorate.

Russia and Turkey agreed to establish twelve observation posts in northern Syria during the Astana talks, according to Tukey’s Presidential Spokesman Ibrahim Kalin.

Turkish sources say that these observation posts are aimed at imposing and monitoring the de-escalation agreement. However, Syrian pro-government activists doubt that, as the Turkish-backed Free Syrian Army (FSA) has continued its attack against the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) after the posts’ establishment.
