Turkey has recalled its ambassadors to the US and Israel for consultations following the May 14 massive protests at the Gaza border resulted in 60 Palestinians killings, Turkish newspaper Hurriyet reported on May 15.

After the May 14 clashes at the Gaza border, 60 Palestinian protesters were killed and over 2,771 were injured by Israeli forces. The protests were held amid the US embassy inauguration in Jerusalem, which took place on the same day.

On May 14, Deputy Prime Minister of Turkey Bekir Bozdag stressed that the US “violated United Nations Security Council decisions by opening its embassy in Jerusalem”.

“Today will go down in the history as Bloody Monday for Muslims and Islamic countries,” Bozdag said.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said that the country had declared a three-day national mourning “to stand in solidarity with our Palestinian brothers.”

Having labeled Israel “a terror state” and killings on May 14 a “genocide,” Erdoğan also said a big rally would be held on May 18 in Istanbul as a sign of solidarity.

Turkish President Condemned the relocation of the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem as it may grow tensions:

“With its latest step America has chosen to be a part of the problem, not a solution, and lost its mediator role in the Middle East peace process.”
