The EU is in a mortal danger from inside and outside claiming that Poland, Hungary, Romania and Italiy are working to weaken or destroy the European project, European Commissioner for Budget and Human Resources Gunther Oettinger stated on September 4.
“In my view, the project is in mortal danger,” he told an event organized by Germany’s Federal Association of Non-Statutory Welfare Services in Brussels. “Some within Europe want to weaken it or even destroy it — Poland, Hungary, Romania, the government of Italy”.
Oettinger also claimed that the EU is at risk from “autocrats” using trade wars and aggression, mentioning Russian President Vladimir Putin, Turkish President Recep Erdogan and “the clever Chinese.” He further complained that his own country, Germany, is not showing enough enthusiasm for the EU, especially when it comes to the budget.
