US military bases in Syria and Iraq are targeted by drones and missiles on a regular basis. However, the US military in other countries in the Middle East is also not safe. The US CENTCOM confirmed a drone attack on the US military base in Jordan, as a result of which several US servicemen were killed and dozens more were wounded.
An UAV reportedly hit the US Outpost Tower 22 in Jordan located near the Ar-Rukban border crossing on the Syrian border.
The US CENTCOM reported that the attack resulted in the deaths of three servicemen and injuries to 25 more. The base command will not disclose the names of the victims for 24 hours until their relatives are informed.
“Out of respect for the families of the victims and in accordance with Pentagon policy, the identities of the deceased servicemen will not be disclosed during the day until their families are notified,” CENTOCOM said in a statement.
The White House has already blamed Shiite groups “loyal to Iran” for the attack, and Biden threatened to hold them accountable. However, the US military does not have specific information on the strike yet and forces that launched it.
Four more military bases that are hosting US forces in Iraq and Syria as well as a military facility in Israel were attacked over the past day. LINK
It is noted that this is the first death of the US military in recent times. Earlier, the Pentagon announced only those injured as a result of a missile strike on a military base in Ain al-Assad in Iraq. The attack in Jordan will escalate the tense situation in the region. Approximately 3,000 US troops are currently stationed in Jordan, with those deployed at Tower 22 specifically engaged in an “advise and assist” mission.
