Iran launched several waves of missiles at Israel over the night of June 13 and 14, with dozens of casualties and serious material losses being reported.

The strikes, codenamed “Operation True Promise 3,” were the Iranian Republic’s response to the Israeli attack on its nuclear program, which began early on June 13.

Four waves of attacks overnight each consisted of dozens of ballistic missiles, according to the Israeli Defense Forces (idf), which said that the first wave included just under 100 missiles. Meanwhile, Iranian media reported that hundreds of missiles were launched at Israel.

IDF Spokesman Brig. Gen. Effie Defrin said most of the missiles were intercepted by air defenses or fell short before reaching the country.

Still, many impacts were reported in the central city of Tel Aviv and the wider Gush Dan metropolitan area, with footage showing much destruction.

Some 80 people were reported hurt in the Iranian missile strikes, including three people who were critically injured and later succumbed to their wounds, Israel’s Magen David Adom ambulance service said, noting that several more people were seriously hurt.

The IDF called on the public not to publish the locations or footage of missile impacts. “The enemy monitors the footage to improve its attack capabilities,” the military said. Arrests over violation of the order were later reported by Hebrew media.

In addition to the missile strikes, Iran launched more than a hundred suicide drones at Israel over the past day. The IDF said that all of them were intercepted. Video footage showing fighter jets, attack helicopters, warships and air defenses taking down the drones were published.

Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, said in a statement that Israel had initiated a war and said it would not be allowed to do “hit and run” attacks without grave consequences.

The Israeli attack on Iran, codenamed “Operation Rising Lion,” targeted several nuclear facilities, including the Natanz and Fordow uranium enrichment plant, in addition to multiple missile sites, air bases and most air defenses in western and central Iran. Some 20 senior military commanders and six scientists were also assassinated.

The deadly overnight missile strikes on Israel were just the start of the Iranian retaliation, according to Iranian media, which said that more attacks will be carried out. The IDF also stated more than once that the operation against the Islamic Republic’s nuclear program was not over yet. Overall, the confrontation could go on for days, weeks or even more.
