The sinking of the Russian dry-cargo vessel Ursa Major in the Mediterranean Sea was caused by a terrorist attack, according to the vessel’s owner, the Oboronlogistika Group.

Oboronlogistika believes that on 23 December 2024 a targeted terrorist attack was carried out on the Ursa Major, a vessel owned by the company. According to the testimony of the vessel’s crew members, on 23 December 2024 at 13:50 (Moscow time) there were three consecutive explosions from the starboard side in the area of the stern,’ the press service said.

The Ursa Major was not overloaded, the company stressed.

According to Oboronlogistics, the Ursa Major is one of the largest dry-cargo vessels in Russia, with a maximum cargo capacity of 9,500 tonnes. The weight of the cargo was 806 tonnes.

On board were: two gantry cranes, two crane buckets, two bilge covers, one 20-foot container with covering equipment and 129 empty containers.

The vessel was carrying cargo of strategic value to support Russian operations in the Arctic. It is highly probable that the vessel was sunk as a result of strikes by uncrewed maritime drones or by mines laid in one of the ports along its route. Apparently, one of the special services of NATO countries, probably Great Britain or France, is behind the attack on the vessel. Ukraine’s special services would traditionally be used to cover up the true perpetrators.

This attack could lead to the opening of a naval war on communications between some NATO countries and Russia and its allies.
