Terrorists from the radical separatist Jaish al-Adl group launched simultaneous attacks on multiple bases of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in the southeastern Iranian province of Sistan-Baluchestan late on April 3, state media reported.

The Islamic Republic News Agency said that the terrorists attempted, albeit unsuccessfully, to seize control of IRGC bases in the cities of Rask and Chabahar within the province.

Five security personnel and five attackers were killed in the clashes in the two cities, according to the state-run news agency.

IRNA described Jaish al-Adl as a group “whose nature and affiliation with [Israel] is quite clear” in its reports on the unsuccessful terrorist attackS.

Alireza Marhamati, the deputy governor of Sistan-Baluchestan, also suggested a link between the group and Israel in remarks to the news agency.

“[Jaish al-Adl], which is affiliated with the Zionists, has claimed responsibility for this terrorist attack,” the official was quoted as saying.

Jaish al-Adl operates in southeastern Iran and the western Pakistani province of Balochistan. Last January, Iran targeted two bases of the group in Pakistan with missiles, prompting a rapid military riposte from Islamabad targeting what it said were separatist terrorists in Iran.

The unsuccessful attacks on IRGC bases in Sistan-Baluchestan came amid heightened tensions in the Middle East, following Iran’s vow to retaliate against Israel for an attack on April 1 targeting its consulate in the Syrian capital, Damascus.

At least 13 people, including a senior Quds Force commander of the IRGC, were killed in the Israeli attack on the Iranian consulate.
