On Wednesday, a Taliban suicide vehicle-borne improvised explosive device hit a military convoy in the southern Afghan province of Helmand, according to local authorities.
The incudent took place near the police chief’s headquarters in Lashkar Gah, the provincial capital. The explosion killed at least 7 people including 4 soldiers and wounded 42 people. Authorities aruge that a major part of the wounded persons was civilians.
The incident followed President Donald Trump’s announcement of a new US strategy in Afghanistan that excludes what he called “arbitrary timetables” for the withdrawal of US troops.
