On March 11, Taliban fighters attacked a convoy of the NATO in the Alizo area of the Daman district in the southern province of Kandahar with a landmine, according to the Taliban news agency Voice of Jihad. The movement’s media wing claimed that the explosion had destroyed vehicles of the NATO, injuring and killing all the soldiers inside it.

Voice of Jihad also reported that NATO forces had been rapidly deployed to the scene of the attack and had closed the entire Alizo area.

Afghan Police spokesman Zia Durrani confirmed to Pajhwok Afghan News outlet that a convoy of the NATO had come under attack while conducting a patrol in Kandahar province. However, Durrani said that no NATO soldiers had been killed or injured.

Meanwhile, the Afghan TOLO TV revealed that at least two civilians had been injured in the Taliban’s attack.

The attack was the second against foreign forces in Afghanistan within 10 days. On March 3, a booby-trapped mini truck driven by a suicide bomber targeted several vehicles of the Australian embassy in the Afghan capital of Kabul.

These attacks echo the poor security situation in Afghanistan in general, although the US and the NATO have significantly increased their forces in the war torn country since late 2017.
