On August 18, a special forces unit of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) 1st Division ambushed a group of ISIS fighters in the area of Ard Amirah north of the governorate of al-Suwayda, according to the al-Suwayda 24 blog. The Syria-based blog said that the terrorists were attempting to sneak out of the area of al-Safa, which is under a tight siege.

A source in the 1st Division revealed to SouthFront that the SAA captured five ISIS fighters, including two minors, during the ambush. The number of the terrorists who were killed could be as high as 25, according to the source.

Few hours earlier, ISIS fighters attacked several positions of the SAA around al-Safa in a desperate attempt to break the siege. However, the SAA and local fighters repelled the attack within few hours.

The SAA is currently working to find around 30 civilian hostages, who were abducted by the terrorist group earlier this month. Once the hostages are found, the SAA backed by Russian military advisors may carry out a special operation to free them.
