The Syrian Air Defense Forces have downed an Israeli reconnaissance drone in the province of Al-Quneitra in southwestern Syria, the al-Manar TV channel linked with Hezbollah reported on March 20 and released photos of the Israeli-made Skylark drone.
The Israeli Defense Ministry confirmed that it had lost the drone in Syria. According to Israeli sources, the Israeli military is investigating the incident and believes that the crash could the result of technical failure.
“The unmanned aerial vehicle, known in Hebrew as Rochev Shamayim, or Sky Rider, in the IDF, isn’t considered to be technologically advanced, and the army stressed that its crash has no security ramifications,” the Israeli Haaretz newspaper reported.
However, a majority of pro-Israeli sources ignored the possibility that the Skylark had been jammed by Syrian troops.
