On October 11, the Syrian government forces relaunched the battle for strategic Yarmouk Refugee Camp in southern Damascus. The camp is predominantly populated by Palestinian nationals and is now under the control of ISIS terrorist group. A minor part of the camp is controlled by Jabhat Fatah al-Sham (formerly Jabhat al-Nusra).
The Syrian army and gorups of pro-government Palestinian militias (the most known is the Palestine Liberation Army) enetered the camp few hours ago. Since then, the government forces have been able to size the entire northern sector of Yarmouk and now they are approaching the Loubia street. If this is done, the government will be in control of about 50% of the area.
While the Yarmouk Refugee Camp is controlled by terrorists, it will be used as a base for attacks on the southern parts of Syrian capital, Damascus. This is why the liberation of this site is one of the strategic goals of pro-government forces.
