Mashhour Zaydan a Syrian commander affiliated with Hezbollah was killed in the recent strike on western Damascus, Syrian sources confirmed on July 22.
Zaydan was reportedly commanding a local force in his hometown, the Druze town of Hadar, in al-Quneitra countryside for several years. He was also known for having special ties with Hezbollah.
Some Israel sources even claimed that Zyadan was close to Samir al- Kuntar, a senior Hezbollah commander who was assassinated by Israel near Damascus in 2015.
Zyadan was killed in the morning of July 21 when a guided projectile hit his car near Sasa in western Damascus. The strike also killed a 3-year old girl and injured three women, who were passing by the targeted car.
No group has claimed responsibility for the assassination of Zaydan. However, the commander’s work and the style of the assassination suggest that Israel was behind it.
Last year, Tel Aviv claimed that Hezbollah is establishing a network in al-Qunitra’s countryside in cooperation with local commanders and warned that it will not tolerate such acts.
