On April 6, Syrian authorities showcased large quantities of weapons and ammunition which were uncovered in the southern region.
A security source told the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) that the weapons were uncovered in recent operations by the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and security forces.
“Recently, through several security operations, large quantities of weapons and ammunition were seized, some of which were hidden within the areas where terrorist groups were active, and others were seized during the cells’ attempt to gather some of their terrorists to target safe areas and posts of the SAA,” the source told the state-run agency.
The seized weapons included light arms and ammunition of different types and calibers as well as:
- Two Soviet-made Fagot anti-tank guided missiles;
- Two Soviet-made rocket-assisted flamethrower.
Last month, Syrian authorities uncovered loads of weapons, including guided missiles, during a combing operation in the western countryside of Daraa.
According to the SANA, the SAA and security forces are currently implementing a well thought-out plan to secure the southern region. The situation in the region has been unstable for over a year now.
