On December 12, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and the National Defense Forces (NDF) continued their operation against Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (formerly Jabhat al-Nusra, the Syrian branch of al-Qaeda) in northeastern Hama, according to pro-government sources.
The SAA and the NDF advanced on the town of Zahraa and liberated it and the nearby height from Hayat Tahrir al-Sham. The mid-term goal of the advance is the village of Abu Dali, which is considered one of the key points needed to government forces if they are going to develop momentum further into the militant-held province of Idlib.
