About 1,000 militants are going to leave the town of Al-Dumayr under a deal between Jaish al-Islam and the Syrian government, the Syrian state-run news agency SANA reported on April 17.

The militants already started to surrender their heavy and medium weapons, according to the agency.

“The surrender of heavy and medium weapons has begun as part of the implementation of the agreement between the Syrian state and the Jaysh al-Islam militants in Doumayr,” the SANA said.

Some militants will also settle their legal status and remain in the town. According to reports, about 60 of the militants have already choosen this option.

The expected liberation of al-Dumayr will be an important step in the framework of the wider effort of the Syrian military to re-establish control over the militant-held pockets within the government-held area.
