The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) has opened a new front against Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (formerly Jabhat al-Nusra, the Syrian branch of al-Qaeda) in the Beit Jinn pocket in southern Syria.
On December 22, the SAA captured a farm area near the former artillery position hill southwest of the militant-held village of Maghar al-Mir.
According to pro-government sources, government troops are going to develop momentum further in an attempt to isolate members of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham in Maghar al-Mir from the southwestern direction.
Meanwhile, clashes also continued between army troops and militants in the eastern entrance to Maghar al-Mir. However, the SAA did not enter the village.
