On Sunday, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA), Liwas al-Quds and other pro-government factions launched a large-scale attack on ISIS positions in the vicinity of Arak gas field east of Palmyra city. Violent clashes have been taking place i the Talila Reserve area and the Arak crossroad since the Sunday morning.
On June 10, the SAA and its allies managed to capture a number of hills and positions overlooking the Arak gas field and deployed in only 4 km from the field. The SAA aims to capture Arak gas field – one of the largest gas fields in Syria – in order to launch the attack on Sukhna town from it.
The SAA had sent significant reinforcements to the area in order to speed up the operation.
From its side, ISIS claimed that three Syrian soldiers have been killed during clashes in the Silos area east of Palmyra city.
Moreover, ISIS fighters allegedly destroyed a Shilka self-propelled gun of the SAA in the Silos area with an ATGM.
