On January 13, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) captured over twenty buildings around the Abu Backer mosque in Harasta district east of the Syrian capital, Damascus, according to Syrian pro-government sources.
Meanwhile, opposition sources reported that Syrian warplanes conducted dozens of airstrikes against positions of the Ahrar al-Sham Movement and its allies around the Armored Vehicles Base and in the districts of Harasta, Irbin and Duma.

The Syrian pro-government news outlet Damascus Now revealed that the SAA killed over 170 fighters and commanders of the Ahrar al-Sham Movement and its allies around the Armored Vehicles Base during the last few weeks. Army soldiers also destroyed two tanks and a BMP-1 vehicle of Ahrar al-Sham during the clashes around the base, according to the source.
From its side, Faylaq al-Rahman announced that its fighters ambushed a group of Syrian soldiers in Irbin district on January 12. Six SAA soldiers and officers were killed in the ambush, according to Faylaq al-Rahman.
The ongoing battle in Harasta district and around the Armored Vehicles Base will not likely end any time soon as the radical groups led by the Ahrar al-Sham Movement are showing an effective resentence against the SAA.
