The Syrian Arab Air Defense Forces (SyAADF) intercepted a SPICE 1000 glide bomb during the July 22 Israeli aerial attack on Homs.
The guided bomb was shot down by the SyAADF over Lebanon. The bomb’s remains fell near the town of Lehfed in Mount Lebanon. Lehfed is located 80 km away from the main target of the Israeli aerial attack, al-Daba Air Base in the southern countryside of Syria’s Homs.

The SPICE [Smart, Precise Impact, Cost-Effective] is an Israeli-developed, EO/GPS-guided guidance kit for converting air-droppable unguided bombs into precision guided bombs. The Spice 1000 is a variant for warheads weighting 450 kg such as the MK-83, MPR1000, BLU-110 and RAP-1000. It has a range of 100 km.
The SyAADF have already intercepted a SPICE 1000 glide bomb before, including near the Syrian capital Damascus on January of 2019.
The July 22 Israeli attack didn’t result in any human losses. Nevertheless, al-Daba Air Base, Hezbollah’s main logistic center in Syria, was severally damaged.
Israel appears to be planning to intensify its attacks on Syria. The July 22 attack was the second this week. The first attack, which targeted several positions in eastern Aleppo, took place on July 19.
