De-escalation zones agreed to be formed in four conflict zones across Syria at the Astana peace talks yesterday will be closed for US-led coalition warplanes, Russia’s special envoy on Syria, Alexander Lavrentiev said, according to the Russian state-run news agency RIA Novosti.
Lavrentiev added that areas controlled by ISIS are the only areas where the US-led coalition will be able to operate.
“The case is that in the de-escalation zones the work of aviation, especially the coalition forces, is absolutely not envisaged. Even with notification or without it,” TASS quoted Lavrentiev as saying. “This issue is off the table now.”
Yesteday, Russia, Turkey and Iran signed a memorandum on the creation of four security zones in Syria. The zones will be reportedly created in the province of Idlib, in the area north of the city of Homs, in Eastern Ghouta near Damascus
Under the plan, government forces and militant groups, which are party to the truce, will stop all clashes in the security zones.
