On October 23, a Su-30SM fighter jet crashed in the Russian city of Irkutsk. The plane crashed on a two-story apartment building. As a result of the incident, two pilots were killed. There were no casualties among the local civilians.
According to the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations, the aircraft crashed during a test flight on the city outskirts. The investigatiev committee reported that the fighter was flying without ammunition.
A fire broke out at the crash site in the area of 200 sq. m. Five people live in the house which was destroyed, they were not at home at the tie of the tragedy, Irkutsk Mayor said. The house is located on the 2 Sovetsky Lane, 4.
People who lost their apartment were offered temporary accommodation. Firefighters liquidated the fire. They continue to clear the debris.
The investigative committee launched a criminal case under the article on violation of traffic safety rules and operation of air transport.
Last week, on October 17, a Su-34 fighter-bomber crashed in the city of Yeysk in the Krasnodar region. 15 people were killed, more than 40 were injured as a result of the incident. The Defense Ministry said that the plane was performing a training flight and crashed soon after takeoff. The Investigative Committee claimed that the reason was a technical malfunction.
The reason for the increased frequency of aviation incidents in Russia is most likely due to a sharp increase in the intensity of operation of military aircraft, deficiencies in maintenance protocols and insufficient qualifications of pilots.
