On September 22, a new report of Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR) titled “Reconstructing the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces” celled the Afghan government to “prosecute corrupt commanders” of the Afghan Army.
“The assessment tools used by the United States and its coalition partners to evaluate the ANDSF [the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces] focused on tangible information such as training and equipment, and failed to assess the intangible but important factors, such as corruption and leaderships,” the report said.
The report revealed that the effectiveness of the Afghan Army and Police was undermined by many corruption related issues like “ghost soldiers”. The report also revealed that the high level of corruption effected even the well trained Afghan Army Special Forces.
Lately, Afghan sources claimed that Taliban fighters knew in advance of any upcoming military operation of the Afghan Army and NATO against them.
Meanwhile the Taliban continue its rapid advance in northern Afghanistan. According to the Taliban news agency, Voice of Jihad the Taliban captured a military base and 3 checkpoints of the Afghan Army in Bukhari Kala area in Almar district of Faryab province on September 22.
Voice of Jihad also announced that on September 21 a key base and 19 checkpoints of the Afghan Army Said district of Faryab province were captured by Taliban fighters .
