Hassan Jafar Qassir, the son-in-law of late Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah, was killed in an Israeli strike that hit the Mazzeh Western Villas neighborhood of the Syrian capital, Damascus, on October 2, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported.
The Mezzeh district is home to Syrian security and military headquarters as well as embassies and United Nations agencies.
The London-based pro-opposition monitoring group said that the Israeli strike hit the first floor of a three-story building frequented by Hezbollah and Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) members, killing Hassan along with two others, another Lebanese national and a Syrian. It added that at least four others were wounded, noting that their identities remain unknown.
Citing a Syrian military official, the Syrian Arab News Agency reported that three civilians were killed and three others were wounded in the Israeli strike.
The deadly strike was launched from the direction of the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, according to the unnamed official.
Neither Hezbollah or the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have yet confirmed that Hassan was among those killed in the strike on Damascus.
Hassan is the brother of Muhammad Jafar Qassir, who was the head of Hezbollah’s Unit 4400. The unit is allegedly tasked with delivering weapons from Iran and to Lebanon. Muhammad was killed in a strike in the Lebanese capital, Beirut, two days earlier alongside the commander of the Imam Hossein Division, an Iran-backed armed faction which operates alongside Hezbollah, according to the IDF.
It’s worth noting that Hassan’s father-in-law Nasrallah was killed in a violent Israeli strike that hit the southern suburbs of Beirut on September 27.
Israel has significantly escalated its attacks on Syria since the outbreak of the war in the Palestinian enclave of the Gaza Strip, targeting Syrian military sites as well as personnel of the IRGC, Hezbollah and other factions of the so-called Axis of Resistance.
