Turkey’s Ministry of National Defense announced that one soldier was killed and 5 others were injured during clashes with the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) and the Kurdistan Worker’s Party (PKK) on June 25.

In an offical statement, the ministry said the clashes erupted following an attack on Turkish military positions in the area of Afrin in northern Aleppo. The Turkish military and its Syrian proxies occupied the area in early 2018.

The YPG-affiliated Afrin Liberation Forces (ALF) claimed responsibility for the attack in an official statement released on June 26.

“On June 25, our forces targeted two positions where soldiers of the Turkish occupiers were stationed in the village of Gilbara of the district of Sherawa,” the ALF’s statement reads.

The Kurdish guerrilla group also released a video of the operation showing its fighters launching at least two anti-tank guided missiles (ATGMs) at Turkish military positions.

In the last few months, the ALF managed to kill and injure dozens of Turkish soldiers and Syrian militants in Afrin and its surroundings. Most of the attacks were carried out with ATGMs, improvised-explosive devices (IEDs) and sniper rifles.
