On October 10, the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced that their fighters have killed 651 ISIS terrorists and captured 6 others since the beginning of the SDF military operation against the terrorist group in the Euphrates Valley a month ago.
In the course of the operation, US-backed forces liberated the key town of al-Baghuz al-Fawqani near the Syrian-Iraqi border on September 20. SDF fighters continued their advance north of the town and managed to impose control of the villages of al-Shajlah and Muzan later.
According to the SDF, the US-led coalition backed its operation against ISIS with 215 airstrikes and 17 artillery strikes. Dozens of positions, ammo depots, communication centers and vehicles of the terrorist group were destroyed as a result.
Regarding the humanitarian efforts, the SDF said that its fighters “freed hundreds of civilians, mostly children and women, and moved them to a camp, which was built to host them and provide them with immediate services and aid.”
The SDF is currently attacking ISIS positions inside the town of al-Marashidah, which is located 3km northwest of al-Shajlah. The US-led coalition pressure will likely force ISIS terrorists to abandon their positions inside the town in the upcoming few days.
