On September 15, the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) captured 7 positions in the vicinity of the town of al-Baghuz al-Fawqani, in the southeastern Deir Ezzor courtside, following heavy clashes with ISIS fighters, according to the SDF’s media center.
US-backed forces also advance 2km towards the town of al-Susah, north of al-Baghuz al-Fawqani, and captured 9 new positions. 16 terrorists of ISIS were reportedly killed during the clashes around the two towns.
The SDF’s media center also acknowledged that 2 fighters of the SDF were killed and 6 others were injured during the operations against ISIS. Furthermore, the terrorist group destroyed two bulldozers and a Humvee armored vehicle of US-backed forces with IEDs.
US-led coalition warplanes continued to support the SDF attack on the ISIS-held pocket and conducted 18 airstrikes on gatherings and vehicles of the terrorist group. The coalition artillery also shelled several positions of ISIS in al-Baghuz al-Fawqani.
The SDF has captured dozens of positions in the southern part of the ISIS-held pocket since the beginning of its military operation on September 11. However, all the key towns are still under the control of the terrorist group.
