Saudi-led Coalition Shot Down Own Combat UAV Over Yemen (Video)

Support SouthFront

On April 10, a unmanned combat aerial vehicle crashed near the city of Sayoun in the central Yemeni province of Hadhramaut.

Multiple pro-Saudi media activists claimed that the crashed drone was an Irainan-developed UAV of the Mohaher series operated by the Houthis (a term used to refer to the Ansar Allah movement) and it was downed by a Saudi Patriot air defense system.

However, a closer look at the vestiges of the drone allows to identify it as a Chinese-made CH-4 unmanned combat aerial vehicle (UCAV).

CH-4 UCAVs are operated by both Saudi Arabia and the UAE, which are actively particiapting in operations against the Houthis across the country. One CH-4B UCAV costs around $4 million.

This is not the first case when the Saudi-led coalition loses UCAVs in Yemen. For example, in August 2018, the Houthis shot down a Saudi CH-4B near Tuwal.
