On January 3, the Saudi-led coalition and pro-Hadi forces resumed their advance towards the strategic port of al-Hudaydah on the Yemeni western coast, according to the UAE-based al-Arabiya TV.
The media outlet said that pro-Hadi forces captured the village of Saida, the Arfan bridge and the Zaumy valley south of Hays district located 110km south of the al-Hudaydah port.
Hays district was captured by the Saudi-led coalition on December 10, 2017. However, only few days later the Houthis recaptured the district in a rapid counter attack.
Meanwhile, the Houthis conducted several hit and run attacks against the positions of the Saudi-led coalition and pro-Hadi forces around Yakhtul town 60km south of Hays district. Houthi fighters destroyed three vehicles of the Saudi-led coalition with rocket-propelled grenades, and one other with an ATGM around Yakhtul in the last 48 hours according to the Houthis media wing.
So far, the Houthis have besieged the Saudi-led coalition and pro-Hadi forces at the western coast of Yemen from the northern, eastern and southern directions. However, the Saudi-led coalition is resupplying its forces there via the sea with landing ships. This allows them to continue its military operation towards the al-Hudaydah port.
