The Russian military repelled several Ukrainian attacks and launched destructive strikes against Kiev forces in the Kursk direction, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported on September 1.
The Sever Group of Forces repelled four attacks near the settlements of Korenevo and Aleksandrovka, the ministry said in a briefing, adding that other attacks were thwarted close to the settlements of Nizhnaya Parovaya and Pogrebki.
“As a result, the AFU [Armed Forces of Ukraine losses amounted to up to 30 troops killed and wounded, two armored fighting vehicles, and two motor vehicles,” the ministry said. “One AFU serviceman surrendered.”
The ministry also announced that Russian air and artillery strikes hit Ukraine’s 22nd, 61st, 115th mechanized brigades, 80th, 82nd air assault brigades, 152nd Jaeger Brigade, and the 1st National Guard Brigade near the settlements of Apanasovka, Borki, Vishnyovka, Gordeyevka, Ivashkovskiy, Lyubimovka, Lebedevka, Martynovka, Mikhailovka, Novoivanovka, Obukhovka, Orlovka, Plekhovo, Cherkasskoye Porechnoye, Russkoye Porechnoye and Snagost.
Other strikes targeted the reserve the 21st, 22nd, 41st mechanized brigades, 17th Tank Brigade, 80th, 82nd, 95th air assault brigades and the 36th Marine Brigade, 103rd, 107th, 129th territorial defense brigades close to the settlements of Belopoliye, Boyaro-Lezhachi, Glukhov, Luka, Obody, Orlovka, Svessa, Pershe Travnya, Sumy and Yunakovka in the Ukrainian region of Sumy, which borders Kursk.
“Over the past 24 hours, the AFU losses amounted to up to 360 troops and 23 units of hardware, including four tanks, one infantry fighting vehicle, two armored personnel carriers, 16 armored fighting vehicles, six artillery guns, including two Polish-made Krab self-propelled artillery systems, three mortars, one electronic warfare station, one ANT/PQ-50 counter-battery radar station, and seven motor vehicles,” the ministry said.
“Since the beginning of hostilities in Kursk region, the AFU losses amounted to more than 8,500 troops, 80 tanks, 37 infantry fighting vehicles, 69 armored personnel carriers, 537 armored fighting vehicles, 249 motor vehicles, 62 artillery guns, 16 multiple-launch rocket systems [MLRS], including four of HIMARS system and two of MLRS system, five SAM [surface-to-air missile] launchers, 13 electronic warfare stations, six counter-battery radars, one air defense radar station, six engineering vehicles, including two counter obstacle vehicles and one UR-77 mine clearing vehicle,” it added.
Russian media released videos showing some of the recent strikes that hit Ukrainian troops, positions and equipment in Kursk and Sumy.
Kiev forces launched their surprise attack in Kursk early on in August, relying mainly on foreign mercenaries and Western-made weapons.
The attack came to a halt within a few days due to the fierce resistance of the Russian military. However, a counter-attack is yet to be launched.
