On the evening of April 9, the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) detained three foreigners who attempted to transfer almost 700 kg of cocaine to Europe.
FSB officers detained two citizens of Colombia and a citizen of one of the EU countries in Moscow. The foreigners received 699 kg of cocaine from Latin America and should send drugs to the EU. Some of the drugs could be sold in Russia.
The FSB estimated the cost of the batch at 2.5 billion rubles, and the profit from retail sales could amount to 6 billion rubles. Foreigners were arrested. They face up to 20 years in prison.
According to the UN Office on Drugs and Crime, the illicit industry produces about 2 thousand tons of cocaine per year, which is almost twice as much as ten years ago. In particular, in Colombia, the volume of cocaine production has grown to a record level, according to Bloomberg.
