On the front lines in the Zaporozhie region positional battles continue. In recent weeks, the warring parties have remained in their military positions without any significant changes. While the Russian military does not carry out any offensive operations in the area, the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) recently attempted to counter attack the Russian military positions. As a result, the Ukrainian attempt was thwarted and the AfU units suffered significant losses. So far no precise data has been confirmed by any military officials.
On May 17, the Russian Ministry of Defence revealed the details of the fighting, supporting claims with footage from the spot.
The Ukrainian counter attack took place near the village of Vishnevoye in the Zaporozhye region on May 14. Kiev’s forces attempted to attack units of the Russian Armed Forces by two Ukrainian mechanized battalions on tanks and infantry fighting vehicles.
The preparation for the attack was revealed by the Russian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and means of technical intelligence in advance.
As a result, the Ukrainian armored vehicles were hit by the Russian attack UAVs and artillery units during their advance and deployment at the attack line. Then, the Russian tanks, infantry fighting vehicles, as well as the anti-tank weapons destroyed the main part of the enemy equipment. Having suffered heavy losses, the AFU were forced to retreat. Retreating Ukrainian tanks and infantry fighting vehicles were hit by artillery fire.
” As a result of the unpromising adventure of the Kiev regime, 26 Ukrainian tanks and 12 infantry fighting vehicles were destroyed by units of the Russian Armed Forces during the attempted attack. The irretrievable losses of the enemy in manpower amounted to about 100 militants.” the Russian MoD reported.
