Russian Mini Ground Drone Infiltrates, Blows Up Ukrainian Post (Video)

The Russian military continues to use ground suicide drones to target Ukrainian fortifications across the front in the special military operation zone.

On June 4, the Russian Ministry of Defense shared for the first time footage showing an attack with the Krot-1, one of the smallest ground suicide drones in service with the Russian military. In the foot, the drone, which was camouflaged, is seen blowing up an underground post of Kiev forces near the settlement of Dyleyevka in the Donetsk direction.

The Krot-1 wheeled 4×4 drone was developed by the Novy Rubezh design bureau. It made its first appearance last year. Despite its small size, the 20-kg drone can carry a payload double its weight. It can also reach a speed of up to 20 kilometers per hour.

The drone can reportedly carry up to three TM-62 anti-tank blast mines. Each of these mines has a7.5 kilograms explosive charge. While the TM-62 was originally designed to disable tanks and other tracked vehicles, it can also be used for demolition.

The Krot-1 can be also equipped with an optical system that allows first-person view control via a data-link. The drone seen in the Russian MoD footage was however a more basic version that was remotely controlled with the help of a spotted quadcopter drone.

Ground suicide drones have proven to be a very reliable, cost-effective way to deal with fortified posts. The Krot-1 small size makes it especially suitable for targeting underground posts with very narrow firing holes that larger drones can’t infiltrate.
