Russian Military Asks Putin to Order to Resumption of Airstrikes in Aleppo, Says Militants' Offensive Repelled

Russia’s General Staff has requested President Vladimir Putin to order the resumption of airstrikes in Aleppo due to the operation of militants, the Russian Defense Ministry announced on October 28.

“Due to the fact that there are still deaths among civilians and that the militants have resumed military activities against government forces, we’ve addressed Russia’s commander-in-chief, asking permission for the resumption of airstrikes targeting illegal armed groups in eastern Aleppo,” Lt. Gen. Sergey Rudskoy said.

Earlier on October 28, militants “used the moratorium of Russian and Syrian combat flights” and launched an attempt to break the iege of eastern Aleppo.

“The attack was carried out by three groups [of militants]… with support of 20 tanks and 15 APCs. All this was accompanied by heavy fire from rocket launchers and artillery,” he Rudskoy.

According to Rudskoy, the offensive was repelled and the terrorists lost six tanks and five armored personnel carriers.

Meanwhile, sources on the ground, photo and video evidences indicate Jabhat Fatah al-Sham (formerly Jabhat al-Nusra) and its allies already captured some areas in western Aleppo: the full 1070 Apartment Project and the Al-Assad area near the al-Assad Military Academy.
