The Armed Forces of Ukraine shot down a Russian Ka-52 helicopter in the Ugledar region. Thea attack was carried out with MANPADS.
The helicopter performed fire support for the units of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation and the People’s Militia of the DPR. Before it was shot by two anti-aircraft missiles, the helicopter reportedly hit two fortified positions of Ukrainian forces. The pilot and the navigation officer made emergency landing and were evacuated by Russian forces from the area.
On August 14, the advancing units reportedly managed to break through the Ukrainian defense and advance in the region.
After the Russian Ka-52 Alligator helicopters proved their effectiveness during the military operations in Syria, the Russian military has been relaying on them to provide its troops in Ukraine with close air support.
